Law and Public Policy Program
The Law and Public Policy program ("LPP"), established in 1984, is an academic enrichment program for students interested in careers in public law, public interest law, or public policy development. The program offers specialized courses and externships, opportunities for interdisciplinary study, academic counseling, and co-curricular activities designed to expose students to the lawmaking process and to offer training in the skills important to lawyers who participate in the development of law and policy in legislative, administrative and judicial forums. Students may be admitted to the program before beginning law school, or subsequently if space is available. The program will accept up to 15 students per class, capping the total enrollment at 45 students. Students accepted into the LPP program and who successfully complete the requirements below are eligible for a certificate in Law and Public Policy upon graduation. Students seeking the certificate in Law and Public Policy must take the following required courses: Administrative Law; Becoming a Public Policy Lawyer, in conjunction with an externship placement; Law and Public Policy; and the Public Policy Practicum, also in conjunction with a fieldwork placement. Student must also, under the supervision of the program director, draft a tentative four-semester academic plan during the second semester of law school or as soon as possible for students accepted into the program after the start of law school. Each student must receive the approval of the director to change his or her course plan. Last Revised 07-Mar-07 04:49 PM.
